Thu., Jul. 28 at 2 p.m. is a sensory-friendly performance.
At sensory-friendly performances, we aim to create performing arts experiences that welcome all by relaxing some traditional theater "rules" and making small modifications to the show. Everyone is welcome at these performances, but particularly people with autism or other social, learning or cognitive disabilities.
Blue Man Group performances are loud, active, and bright. If you are interested in attending this sensory-friendly performance but aren't sure if it is the right fit, here is what you can expect:
- Sound: Music and sound effects are used throughout the performance. Some of the instruments include drums, electric guitar, and instruments made from found objects such as PVC pipes. The volume will be reduced for this performance but it can still be loud.
- Lights: Lighting effects are used throughout the performance. Strobe lights will not be present but there will be flashing lights and lights that pass over the audience and all around the theater.
- Audience Interaction: There are several moments of audience interaction. Audience members will be approached by a Blue Man Group production staff member and asked if they would like to volunteer to be up on stage or interact from their seats.
- Splash Zone: During the performance soft objects such as marshmallows, streamers, and toilet paper are thrown into the audience. The splash zone is located in the front orchestra section of the theater. For seating locations further away from the "splash zone" we recommend seating in the rear orchestra, box tier, and balcony locations.
- What to Bring: Please bring tools that will help make the experience comfortable for you! Some suggestions are: noise-cancelling headphones, sunglasses or visors, fidgets, and communication devices. There will also be a limited number of noise-cancelling headphones and visors or sunglasses available in the theater lobby as well.
- Please watch the video below to see and hear real moments from the show.
- Review our Pre-Visit Story about the Eisenhower Theater.
